Package: nmh Version: 1.1-release-4 Severity: normal
In using an up-to-date debian etch system with architecture amd64, nmh package cannot send mail due to the fact that the mh post program seems to try to attempt to execve the "no" program instead of "sendmail" when mts.conf specifies mts:sendmail. This bug does not seem to exist in an up-to-date debian etch system using architecture ia32. I found this bug because I couldn't send outgoing mail using MH and eventually strace'd post to find that it was calling execve on "no" with other arguments appearing to be sendmail arguments. I was able to work around this bug by specifying "sendmail: /usr/lib/sendmail" in /etc/nmh/mts.conf (which shouldn't be necessary). >From judicious google searches, it appears that this can happen when the machine where the package was built did not have a sendmail installed. In that case the MH configure script puts "no" in for the location of sendmail. As currently delivered, it would appear that MH would be non-functional for most users who couldn't figure out the problem and the workaround. I'm using postfix (and hence, postfix's delivery of /usr/sbin/sendmail) in case that matters.
