It's not bad to have an indication of activity in progress, but a quick succession of messages on the status line, one replaced by the next, is not good user interface design.
The messages may be interesting to a programmer, but they should be directed to a debug log or display where they are easier to read. To help users understand the delay represents activity in progress, a "rotating dash" on the status line would be better.
