OSS offers all the features mpg123 needs. Not having to load the OSS
compat module on Linux is the only benefit you gain from using the ALSA
version. On the other hand, OSS support in mpg123 is well tested whereas
the ALSA 0.9+ interface was only recently added. OSS is a default that
works on more kernels than only Linux, and is has a smaller memory
footprint: On my system, it's about 57k for the OSS compatibility
module, 772k for libasound.

Actually, I'd like to fold as many of the different flavours as possible
into a single package, and dynamically select the proper output method.
Upstream is working on a solution, and I hope it will be in time for
etch. This should settle the ALSA problem as well.
