Package: ivi
Severity: normal

There is a new eclipse-based ivi available upstream. It would be great
if the ivi package in Debian could move to that. However, there are a
few important concerns:

1) Eclipse is currently in contrib, while ivi is currently in main. If
possible, I would like to keep ivi in main. There have been reports of
eclipse working correctly with free JVMs, like kaffe. As soon as there
is a Free way of getting this new version of ivi in main, I will go for
it.

2) The new eclipse-based ivi does not support Icarus Verilog (Debian
package verilog) or GHDL (Debian package ghdl), but only supports Cver
Verilog (which is, I believe DFSG free, but not packaged in Debian).
Support for the other two is in the upstream's plan but is not yet
there. This is mostly just a transitional issue, and isn't quite so bad,
since the current ivi is broken with respect to GHDL > 0.13 anyway.

Anyway, in the interim, it's unlikely that many other bugs in the
current ivi will be fixed unless they are packaging-related, include
patches, or are minor enough that I can fix them myself in a limited
amount of time.

Hopefully we will be able to move to the new ivi upstream version in the
"near" future. =)
