And here are two more solutions:

3) I've written some patches for usplash (accepted in the upstream version
which isn't packaged yet) which add support for user input. Once a more
recent usplash is uploaded, it will be easy to add support to the
cryptsetup initramfs scripts (I already have it working with some locally
built packages)

4) Boot with the "quiet" kernel boot argument
