Hm, I'm perfectly able to mount removable hard disks and cd-roms with hal-0.5.8.x. The only issue I could notice, is that in konqueror media:/ only shows removable storage devices (with hal 0.5.7 it also showed non-removable storage devices, local partitions).
Could you check the hal properties storage.hotpluggable and storage.removable If they are both set to true, then hal sets volume.ignore=true. So if this is the case, this could be your problem. Cheers, Michael
