You are right in that I should not make assertions based on assumptions.

...people should learn to use apt-cache show/search to see what's going
to install instead of posting bug reports about package names ;-)

Name conflicts are extremely rare in the open-source world. Because of
this, I, and many others (e.g. on IRC), do not use apt-cache when
there is a package with the exact name. I am merely suggesting you
make a small change. This change will allow users to keep enjoying the
ease of installing packages without checking apt-cache first. :-)
