Please note that while most free-form fields in the debconf-driven configuration have the entered string end up verbatim in exim's configuration file (and thus using more advanced features like host, address and domain lists is possible used and will probably work), The 'used' in the last sentence seems wrong. I've got a question about exim4/conf.d/auth/30_exim4-config_examples too. The 'examples' filename seems to indicate the file content is ignored and (parts) should be copied somewhere else if you want to use them. I think this is not the case.
