First, thanks for the report! I see you know how to run the debugger. Unfortunately I don't have IBM hardware to test with tpb, and I cannot reproduce the problem. Therefore, I prepared Debian packages from the current CVS snapshot with some fixes from me (which may already solve your problem but I don't have much hope), enabled debugging symbols (so your gdb displays more useful data) and already Debug code enabled (so you can use the -d switch and catch the verbose program output). Could you please try reproducing your results with those binaries?
