Subject: memtest86+: program freezes during execution without any errors Package: memtest86+ Version: 1.65-1 Severity: important
Hi. I have the following problem: During execution of memtest86+ it randomly freezes after some time, meaning the system totally hangs nothing works than power off/on. My harware is the following: Mainboard: Tyan S2895 CPU: 2x DualCore Opteron 275 (note that these CPUs have an integratet memory controller, thus memory is directly connected to the CPU and not via the Northbridge) RAM: 4x Kingston ValueRAM ECC/Reg 1GB (on each NUMA node 2 GB) The Chipsets of the mainboard are the following: -Nvidia nForce Professional 2200 -Nvidia nForce Professional 2050 -AMD 8131 Please note I'm pretty sure that the memory and CPU is ok: - I run a gimps/mprime torture test on all 4 cores for about 16 hours with no problems at all (all computet results were ok). - Most of the time,.. the program freezes after some successfully completet passes (so e.g. 3 passes without any error,.. but then a freeze) Ok: The Debian version reports me the following: Chipset AMD8000 (which is not what I have, I think), ECC Detect/Correct, DDR401 (this is not a typo,.. it says 401) For the test settings ECC is set to _on_ I've seen that this was maybe introduced due to a patch in Version 1.60-2 (see bug #303049, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=303049). So I've tried the original version from memtest86+ 1.65 (http://www.memtest.org/) With this version I have not had any freezes until now,.. and my longest running time was about 6 hours with 5 completet passes. (I'm going to make an even longer test with more passes tomorrow.) This version reports the following: Chipset nforce 4 (which is not nforce professional AND different from what the Debian version detects), ECC Detect/Correct, DDR401 (this is not a typo,.. it says 401) For the test settings ECC is set to _off_ (the Debian version sets this to on per default). Any ideas? You may also have at a look at my bugreport in the memtest86+ forum at: http://forum.x86-secret.com/showthread.php?t=5242 Best wishes, Chris.
