inconsistencies between the daemon and the CGI could be caused by a
persistent perl interpreter, eg. SpeedyCGI (which is enabled in the
default configuration) that gets confused by configuration changes.

If you're using speedy, does the problem persist after killing
off the speedy_backend processes? Alternatively, with mod_perl,
try restarting apache.

You're right. I killed speedy_backend processes, and the error
disappeared. (I had tried restarting Smokeping and Apache before
submitting the report, but I was not aware of speedy_backend.)

It would be good if this tip was displayed together with the error
text on the web, or if smokeping init script took care of killing
speedy_backends, or if it at least logged the warning during
reload/restart to console.
