Package: smartmontools
Version: 5.37~cvs20061002-1
Followup-For: Bug #368028

There are a number of reports that say smartmontools fails to start on
installation or upgrade. Even if /etc/default/smartmontools is set to run
smartd, this happens:

# wajig install smartmontools_5.37~cvs20061002-1_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package smartmontools.
(Reading database ... 50125 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking smartmontools (from smartmontools_5.37~cvs20061002-1_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up smartmontools (5.37~cvs20061002-1) ...

What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions

The default action is to keep your current version.

The reason is simply that smartd is already running, and all that's needed is a
restart.
I imagine there's a standard way to handle this? Check if it's running and do a
restart if it is?
