interesting. do you actually have any background processing preferences set?
i have flist run at 1 minute intervals, and i can't reproduce your 
problem so far: new messages do pop up blue in the current folder.

pretty likely so. exmh's caching/background processing/unseen handling
has been a problematic area for ages.

it would be great if i could pass your .exmh/exmh-defaults and 
a debug log upstream (preferences -> hacking support, including the flist
debug option). the debug log may need sanitising if you use pgp/gpg from 
within exmh, i can't exactly remember how many secrets exmh spills 
when debug is on.
