- nano did not change, the alternative for /usr/bin/editor is
installed in both sid (1.9.99pre3-1 here, but 2.0.01-1 should be
identical according to the changelog.) and sarge as 40.
- vim did change, regular vim setup itself with priority 120 in sarge
(and vim-gtk diverted /usr/bin/vim). In sid the alternative
priorities ranges from 10 to 60 for the different binary packages.
I cannot find proper documention for the lowereded vim priorities in
debian/changelog, but iirc there was some discussion on d-d. The
striking argument was something like this iirc:
- Newbies being dumped into any vi variant should not happen by
default.
- Non-newbies can easily change the default editor. Either by changing
the alternatives if they have root privileges or as shown below.
