That's a good point. Is there a mechanism for resolving such conflicts in Debian? Is one needed? Something (GNOME, Gaim, I don't know) has already registered 'gaim-remote uri "%s"' as a handler for aim URIs. Other apps that have registered a handler include X-Chat, Ekiga, Gnomemeeting, Galeon, Last.fm, Evolution, Totem and Tomboy. I'm not sure how that was done.
