Package: gaim Version: 1:2.0.0+beta5-3 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream The current interface for IRC connections is highly confusing. The "Accounts" window no longer has an "Online" checkbox, so it isn't clear to me how to initiate a connection. And the "Connection Status" progress window seems to have gone away, too.
My current understanding is that, unless a commandline option inhibits autoconnection, a connection is attempted at startup for all "Enabled" accounts. It seems that there is some status displayed at the bottom of my main gaim window; this contains less information than the previous connection status display, which showed the status for each connection independently. I was using SSH to tunnel the IRC port (since one of the schools blocks it), and was given no indication that the account was connected. In order to make any use of the connection, one must find the "Room List" button, or "Sent Instant Message" to irc.XXX.com, and then /join #foo. I would have expected for the "irc.XXX.com" window to pop up, so I could /join #foo, or that the "Modify Account" window allows autojoining to a list of channels. I see now that there is also a "Room list" window. I wonder if this should be (optionally?) activated once any IRC connection is established. It would also be nice if the "Advanced" tab of the IRC "Modify Account" window allowed specification of a non-default TCP port. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
