Were you upgrading from 4.0 or 4.1? Probably an older version supported it and you put it in somewhen for some reason. If so, tell me what it was supposed to do, maybe we find an alternative in 5.0. Anyway, just remove the option from the my.cnf file it is in and mysql should start again.
