Package: conky
Version: 1.4.4-1
Severity: important
Hi
After installing a fresh copy of Conky without any existing configuration
files, running the program results in the following error.
Conky: tail logfile does not exist, or you do not have correct permissions
No obvious way to resolve this issue is mentioned or seemingly available. No
default configuration file is provided by conky when run in the home
directory, so editing a configuration file is not an obvious solution. Even
if it was, there is no indication of what should be changed to resolve the
problem. As far as I can tell, there was no package documentation which
mentions it at all.
Eventually, I managed to resolve it in the following manner:-
* Copying the configuration file in /usr/share/doc/conky/examples to $HOME
* Uncompressing it
* Guessing the required configuration filename for default usage
* Removing the line "${tail /var/log/Xorg.0.log 3 30}"
I'm quite certain that this series of steps would not occur to every user of
this package, resulting in many abandoning it. Therefore, I consider this a
very serious issue. Although this bug cannot be classed as 'grave' under
Debian's packaging system, if there was a 'very important' category I would
of used it.
Hope this bug report helps.
Thanks
Regards,
Barrie
