Hi Dan, a new hylafax version should be released tomorrow, but this bug isn't addressed. The problem is that hylafax require a TIFF or POSTSCRIPT, so an image file, as input.
For many reasons, a utility called "textfmt" has been provided to convert ASCII to POSTSCRIPT, but it cannot be used to read UTF-8 as well. A useful file, /etc/hylafax/typerules, is available in order to convert input files in POSTSCRIPT or TIFF. I checked how to add a rule able to convert UTF-8 into POSTSCRIPT and the only way I could think of is using the command "enscript" that currently does not support utf-8. Please note that you may already use enscript for many character sets. Are you aware of any program, available in Debian, that may be used as filter? If such program exists, I would gladly add a rule in the next Debian package; otherwise I should probably close this bug report.
