Hi Fabrice, thanks for testing once again, but i believe you replied to an old test request: we recently discovered that the cause of the crash you reported is probably due minor number swap between vesafb and fb16vga fb devices, with DirectFB trying to access erroneously the latter. I built an ISO [1] which includes a fix for that: could you boot and report whether it works or not?
In the case this image should crash, could you boot it once again with

install DEBIAN_FRONTEND=newt

then from VT2 write down on a piece of paper the content of

/proc/fb

and save the syslog?

I'm dropping bug 394615, which is about 16 color modes not being supported by DFB, and cc'ing bug 401685, which i created today and is about a way to fix swapped fb devices. Being 401685 assigned to a package (rootskel-gtk) managed by debian-boot, future replies will be sent to the d-i team.

thanks

Attilio
