It is possible that this problem is related to the nvidia-installer. I tried to remove all files being from the proprietary nvidia-installer and broke the nvidia-glx-installation as well (X-Windows didn't start anymore). I then purged nvidia-glx and reinstalled it, now xmms is starting again. Sorry for the wrong bug and thanks for the help!
