Apparently this has been fixed upstream[1]. So if I or someone else from our team finds time, and more importantly the patch that fixed it (the upstream VSC is in a state of disrepair right now, iirc), it can be applied to the current package. Not many hints from his reply as to what the actual cause was. I may as well ask him directly . . . Thanks, Kel.
