Package: manpages-nl
Version: 20051127-2
Severity: important

Hoi Thijs,

Lots of manpages shipped with manpages-nl are very much out of sync
with the tools we ship in Debian.

- bash(1) documents bash 2.03 (Dec 1999), we ship 3.1 (Dec 2005)

- ls(1) documents ls from fileutils 4.01 (2000-05), we ship coreutils
  5.97 Jul 2006

- cat(1) documents cat from textutils 2.0 1999-08, we ship coreutils
  5.97 Jul 2006

- mount(2) is a translation of mount(2) from manpages 1.29 Nov 1994, we
  ship 2.39 Aug 2006 manpage from 2004-05

- printf(3) does not state any version (lots of other translated
  manpages fail to do this)

This is not a merely theoretical problem: the original manpages
have seen changes which haven't made it in the translations:

- chgrp(1) doesn't mention the --preserve-root option

- ls(1) and du(1) mention the obsolete --kilobytes option

Currently, people might be mislead by the version "20051127" and assume
the manpages are well maintained. I suggest adding a warning to the
description in the control file, e.g. by changing

 [...]
  * 8 Administration and privileged commands (e.g. ping)
 More translations are welcome.

into something like

 [...]
  * 8 Administration and privileged commands (e.g. ping)
Updates of translations are welcome: most of the translation
 haven't been updated since 2001-12.

(Of course, the translations should get shipped with the upstream tools,
but getting that done takes much more effort...)

Bedankt voor het onderhouden van manpages-nl!

Groeten,

Joost
