Well, it would be good if either the manpage of pg_upgradeclusters or README.Debian said explicitly which commands to issue to upgrade from 7.4 to 8.1. You just say that the tools exist and document how to call them, but you don't say (e.g.) how to treat the (quite empty) 8.1/main cluster that gets created after the upgrade.
