Jean-S�bastien, I begin the process of triaging bug reports for the shadow package. I have read the whole story of this bug report and my feeling is to conclude that the error you experienced is obviously an environmental error, as noticed by Karl Ramm. Moreover, IIRC, the Debian Installer team has had a lot of install reports, involving exim4 installation and configuration, and none mentioned such problem on Alpha installs. So, I'm about closing it but, of course, I need your input a very last time. --
