I experienced something similar approximately 2 days ago: ftp.at.debian.org wanted to convert my system to experimental. but ftp.at.debian.org had already given me MD5 sum mismatches in pbuilder earlier that day, therefore I changed the mirror in sources.list to ftp.de.debian.org and then the aptitude upgrade did what I expected. I guess that at least in my case there was no problem with aptitude but with one of the mirrors.
