I'm sorry, I don't get the point here. I see what I think is a bug and
I report it..:-)

I see no pedantry. The normal procedure to report issues with Debian
packages is by using the bug tracking system, *not* with personal
email to maintainers. The BTS has "severities" which are aimed at
categorising bugs by order of importance. Hence the "minor" severity I
gave to my bug report.

Or, but I fail to believe this, would you belong to be in that very
small category of package maintainers who regard bug report as
personal threats against them?

Well, given that all "translations" are identical to original strings,
my point is that there is no real benefit from this translation file.
Which is IMHO a bug as this is an incorrect use of gettext (and I
claim some experience about gettext).

Not exactly bytes of storage but extra unecessary cruft. Not really
important but that's why the bug was filed with severity "minor".

Then you should have tagged this bug report as "wontfix". Closing it
does not make it disappear.

This is not the usual procedure to report issues with packages and my
experience with many package maintainers is that they are grateful for
such suggestions.

Not exactly. My suggestion was waiting for the French translation
update to fix the bug (but it appears you won't fix it so my
suggestion is not relevant anymore). And use this as an opportunity to
get more translations.

I regret that you see i18n/l10n issues as not deserving attention. Or
have I been misleaded by my bad knowledge of the English language?

Sorry, but I beg to disagree and I see this bug closure as non
coopoerative behavior/behaviour.
