A few other remarks: The installation was done with the Etch netinst daily build, downloaded at 20061229. It is a new installation.
The reason I wanted to install this module (apart from the fact that it worked on kubuntu, the other distribution I installed on this machine) was that I needed agp support for the i810 X driver. No /dev/agpgart device was present after the install, and creating it (with 'mknod -m 666 /dev/agpgart c 10 175') also didn't work.
