hddtemp is not reporting temperature in syslog. I am proposing adding SYSLOG="-S x" to /etc/defaults/hddtemp and /etc/init.d/hddtemp
Instead of SYSLOG, there should be OPTIONS, because otherwise every new option of hddtemp needs a new var in /etc/default/hddtemp.
BTW: There is a new upstream version available.
