Package: console-data Version: 2:1.01-6 Sorry, I'm only guessing which package is responsible for this.
I just did a fresh Debian etch install on a new desktop using the testing- i386-netinst CD (Official Snapshot i386 Binary-1 (20061111)). I cannot bring up the usual virtual terminals 1-6 (e.g. CTRL-ALT-F1). If I try, nothing at all happens. A ps listing does show the terminals, e.g. /sbin/getty 38400 tty2 I can't get a virtual terminal in any of the following situations: At any point during the installation from the CD; From a gnome terminal window; If I boot into a console without ever calling gdm; From the X window brought up by calling xinit. I also couldn't get a virtual terminal during installation of 3.1r4 (sarge). I didn't complete that installation because it didn't detect my NIC. I also couldn't get a virtual terminal while running Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy), which did install. The keys themselves are not physically busted. At the install boot prompt, the F? keys bring up the help screens as expected. In any X window, ALT works as a modifier so that non-ASCII characters are displayed. CTRL works too (e.g. CTRL-g gives a tone). I'd be grateful for any help fixing this and will be happy to send any specs or outputs that might be helpful. Thanks. kernel = 2.6.18-3-686 #1 SMP Mon Dec 4 16:41:14 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux libc = 2.3.6.ds1-8 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
