What desktop environment are you running (Gnome, KDE, Xfce)?
Check the kpowersave configuration under General settings, which method
of screen locking do you use? Is it set to automatic? If you run KDE,
try to set it to kscreensaver.
If you run KDE, make sure that kded is running.
Is you screen not locked at all or simply too late, if so, it is very
likely duplicate of
