My locale settings are
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8

I am using "intelligent pinyin" (translated from the german string) but have 
other modules installed (UIM, Hangul, Canna...).

I don't know what further information can help, if you need the scim configs I 
can mail them to you.
