done, i get a hard lockup of the machine everytime i try to scan networks,
then i have to reboot.
Maybe it's useful to know that i don't have currently an access point i
can connect to.

These are the steps to reproduce, taken from bug #405746:

iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
iwconfig wlan0 essid foo
iwconfig wlan0 channel 6
iwconfig wlan0 key open
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan
