(Assuming you meant that you could get it to compile against xerces26). You'd probably have to take this up with the release team. Even with recent changes, it seems like it could be risky to make removal of xerces25 contingent upon xalan19 clearing NEW in time. Of course, the fact that many external packages depend upon specific versions of xerces is, after all, the reason that there are so many versions in debian.
