There ar emany of these among the mediamate templates so I see no special reason to fix this one. However, this spots other extra whitespaces which come from trailing whitespaces at the end of lines in the original templates file. This will be fixed in the next NMU I'm preparing (I just want to avoid the maintainer to "fix" this....and fuzzy all translations, which has 80% chances to happen). You mention a German translation file, but the one I can get from the link you posted is empty.
