This can only happen if you configured uswsusp on a kernel with devfs.
I haven't looked at the installer lately, but it used to use devfs. It
seems a bit weird to me they still do... I just checked on #debian-boot
and indeed they seem to use the devfs names, although they use udev.

I've been told they are moving away from this scheme after the release
of etch.

I think I'll tag this bug WONTFIX.
