Hm. What's the output of "date"? On my system, 2003 is not more than 5
years old...
Except for this message, I cannot find any other error in the log. Is
there a file /var/lib/texmf/web2c/latex.fmt?
I saw this line but didn't pay too much attention, figuring that the
year could have been 2000. It turns out that the clock on this machine
had the right date but the year was 2055! Changing that fixed it.
