I can only apologise, then. That's not the niche I'm aiming to fill. Have you considered using Jed?
I looked at jed for the first time yesterday. I was mostly impressed. I was not impressed by the selection of bold typeface for most text on syntax-highlighted listings.
jed's barrier to entry is higher than Zile v1 but lower than Zile v2/Emacs.
The barrier to using jed would have been much higher without the permanent F10 prompt. This prompts the user to hit F10 which in turn activates drop-down menus. These menus are fairly obvious to use and expose many available functions directly and provide the emacs key binding equivalents.
Once I have found a way to invert jed's use of bold on listings, I would find it a suitable replcement for zile ver.1.
