Note that there is a separate libpam-heimdal package that's built against
Heimdal already in Debian. However, it too probably won't work with KCM.
The patch looks good to me; I'll apply it upstream.
Note that the current upstream version of libpam-krb5 is 3.4. I'm waiting
until after the etch freeze to update the Debian package. There have been
additional Heimdal portability fixes since 2.6. Could you try 3.4 (with
the credential cache type patch) and see if it's still producing the
strange error message? (The error logging stuff should be fixed.)

I'm happy to get more Heimdal testing. I don't use Heimdal myself, so I
