 It's only a temporary situation until we find a way to do the
 transition, but it's post-etch anyway.  But please note that the above
 packages only create caches for sub-directories -- this is ok.  The
 shared directory /usr/share/icons itself is not.

Well, the issue I stumbled into was related to outdated caches in the
subdirectories. There is no cache file in the directory itself.
