I applied Alexander's patch, and made a new gnustep-back package. Please, could you test it and reports if it work (or not) ?

If you don't use i386 arch, you can easily rebuilt it using apt-src for example:
add this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list :
deb-src http://eh666.free.fr/ GNUstep/debian/tests/
cd to an empty dir then type: apt-src install gnustep-back apt-src build gnustep-back
and install the new package using dpkg
