Package: qemu
Version: 0.8.2-4
Severity: important

        Hi!

I am having serious problems with using some regular i386 images in
qemu on my powerpc machine. I tried the recent etch d-i RC2 image or
a grml 0.9 image, with the following results:

The i386 d-i image went all way through until the installl of the
basesystem. There after a while it failed, and on the forth virtual
console I saw the message: "cp: Memory exhausted" on the installation of
base-files. I have allowed qemu to use 256 MB (doubled the initial
default of 128 MB) with no change in the result at all ...

The problem with grml 0.9 were even more strange, the boot worked until
it came to the runlevel switch but didn't find any processes to start so
it stopped at that point.

<http://grml.gwendoline.at/> - if you want the image to test. It's
based on Debian unstable, the differences are quite minor, and it is
used without any problems on plain i386/pentium machines.

I'm not exactly sure what else to provide you with, so feel free to bug
me if you can't reproduce the problems, though I can it every time I
try...

 So long,
Alfie
