The beeps when links go up and down are really annoying and ugly. I suggest that the beep should be disabled in the default configuration, by having the "-b" argument in /etc/default/ifplugd.
There is simply no justification for making (ugly) noises when it is not even an error condition (failure to plug in an ethernet cable is not an error). It's simply bad UI design. If every daemon did that we would have a horrible cacophony. There are other tools available for monitoring network interface status and showing it to the user in a nice way.
