I cannot reproduce the bug in echoping version 6 (just shipped). I did not fix it on purpose :-) but it seems fixed nevertheless.
I confirm the bug in 5.2. I hesitate to make a "security fix" since there is no real security issues. But it is indeed a nasty bug.
