Hi Frank, for the error you address below, I suggest to use the most recent asamples.tex file on CTAN, i.e.,
ftp://dante.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/archaic/asamples.tex This is about six years older than the one within the texlive-fonts-extra package - so, it may well be a syntax problem of the asamples.tex file itself. If you test the newer file, than you get the sarabian problem I pointed out few e-mails ago. With the hope it helps. All the best, Emanuele.
