Just tried this, using

Mailed this picture to myself, viewed the mail with
icedove 1.5.0.10.dfsg1-2 and 1.5.0.10.dfsg1-3
Both did _not_ beep, did _not_ display a letter,
but did display the usual broken-image-icon.
