Having the same issue on my testing box. Postinst hangs at "Stopping
MySQL server". It does this even after completely uninstalling and
purging mysql-server-5.0 and installing again fresh. Syslog and dpkg
log reveal nothing out of the ordinary. I have left my system as-is for
debugging if anyone is interested.
