It's a known bug => #345040 To more logs: The module is never released by X and if you switch fast enough on the console you can the that the X process take 100% of one CPU. There's no logs in X log in kernel logs. It happens also with 2.6.18 and experimental package (8.31.5-1) and with latest ati release (8.35.5-1). Since linux-headers-2.6.20-1-686 has a broken dependancy I cannot test these packages with 2.6.20. Last thnig, one time a build of debian linux-kernel was done without some debian pathes and a lot of bugs were gone (this one, and some relative to hibernation).
