Package: fam
Version: 2.6.6.1-5.2

I'm running a pretty stock Sarge desktop except for a 2.6.10-k7 kernel -
the 2.6.8 kernels don't like my Logitech cordless click! mouse - and the
nvidia drivers (the problem is not related to either as it occurs with
earlier kernels and with the nv driver as well). It's up to date as of
today.

After a brief period of running, famd starts taking up the entire CPU
and my desktop applications begin crashing. Once I kill famd, my desktop
returns to normal and is quite stable. This happens under both Gnome and
KDE.

I have:
- an MSI kT4V mainboard with an Athlon XP2100+ CPU and 1G DDRAM
 - onboard sound and lan
- dual WD 160G HDs
- LG 4120B dual-layer DVD burner
- An ASUS nVidia 8x AGP video card

I've set the system up with /home on the second drive and 2 x 1G swap
files, one on each drive (/var/swap1 & /home/swap1). I also have several
mounted shares from a W2K server.

I don't know if it's a bug or something about my system setup but it's
annoying. :) Since the fam package is required by Gnome, I can't remove
it. I gather it's doing something important, so I also don't like not
having it running.
