OK.
        Yeah, texlive-latex-extra is a fatty.  Too bad it isn't broken up into 
separate packages? :)  
        Alternatively, I was thinking of using "Miktex Package Manager for 
Unix-likes".  The webpage claims it downloads packages from CTAN and puts 
them in a "TDS-compliant TEXMF directectory hierarchy".  One would probably  
make this a local texmf directory so as not to get in the way of Debian 
official texmf directory.
